It is the relation of an input (x) to an output (y).

2. What is the relationship between x and y?
(x) is just a place-holder where it represents any value. Every element in (x) is related to (y) and no element in (x) has 2 or more relationships. (x) goes through the function (f) to become equivalent to the output value (y).

3. Is the function a relation?
Yes. A function is a relation that (x) has to go through to become equivalent to (y). It is the relation that connects the value of (x) to the value of (y) through the function (f).
